With our second annual Inner Peace in Paradise Yoga Retreat taking place next week, we wanted to share some background information on this year’s Yoga instructor and her Yoga journey.
From September 16th to 20th, 2015, the Retreat promises to be a fun-filled and peaceful retreat with two yoga classes each day to connect with your space and begin your inner retreat with a gentle, grounding practice. Sarah will be here ready to help restore, balance, connect and inspire all the yogis (beginners to advanced welcome!) and we are looking forward to her wonderfully calm and healing classes.
How long have you been practicing Yoga?
I have been practicing with my mother since I was very young. I took up the practice again in 2001, and have been teaching since 2003.
What type of Yoga do you teach?
I am certified in Bikram, Baptiste Power Yoga and Shiva Rea’s Prana Vinyasa. My experience as a movement and postural analyst strongly informs my teaching so I teach classes which are designed to integrate the body into wholeness and awareness through alignment, breathing and presence.
What are the main benefits of Yoga and how has Yoga benefited your quality of life?
Yoga is an incredible tool that brings us into a connected state within ourselves so we can create a life that we love living. Physically, it releases the patterns of stress, the patterns we take that our not beneficial, and instead and teaches us how to be present and connected within ourselves.
What do you love about Jamaica and Jamaica Inn, and why do you think it is the perfect location for a Yoga Retreat?
Jamaica is a thriving vibrant culture and has so much to offer. Jamaica Inn is the absolutely perfect location for an inner peace retreat: the healthy food, the tranquility, the incredibly warm and supportive staff. Being in such a healing and beautiful space nourishes our senses and system so we can become present. The ocean is deeply healing and the luxurious spa treatments and food give everyone the space to create exactly what they need.
What is your idea of inner peace?
Inner peace is simple although having the dedication to practice it can be a challenge! To me, inner peace means having the integrity to be complete in one’s self by doing what is right from self-knowledge and self-love. Our inner alignment creating our actions and life.
Any tips on your fave Yoga Wear, websites or music?
I wear what feels good to move in that I can play and stretch in all day long. For leggings that stay put (and opaque!) Lululemon is my go-to. I love Hardtail for cover-ups and unique pieces, and breezy tanks by Spiritual Gangster.
I love the website Spotify – it’s similar to iTunes and Pandora but you can share playlists and I’m obsessed with it and Shiva’s website for practicing and connecting with home practices is also great.
We look forward to welcoming Sarah to Jamaica Inn next week, and we know our yogis who are booked in are very excited and thrilled to take her classes!
It is not too late to book, space is still available! Check our website for more information.
