Jamaica Inn is delighted to announce their partnership with Eric Underwood, former soloist of The Royal Ballet, and star of the upcoming musical fantasy film Cats. Eric Underwood will take residency at the iconic Jamaican property to teach a series of movement and stretch classes to hotel guests staying between 15 – 22 January 2020.

Whether guests are looking to learn a new skill, relax or stretch after a long flight or improve their overall sense of well being, Eric’s masterful movement classes will offer a fun and inventive addition to the hotel’s existing activities. The classes will accompany Jamaica Inn’s popular weekly programme of activities which include: croquet on the lawn, tours of the lush surrounding gardens, yoga at the ocean pavilion, non-motorized water sports and life guard training with the hotel’s most adored member of staff: Shadow the Black Labrador.

British-American movement director, Eric Underwood is set to portray Admetus in the 2019 film adaptation of Cats, scheduled for release on 20 December 2019. Prior to this, Eric has danced the lead in some of ballet’s greatest performances including Swan Lake, Sylvia and Manon, and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Eric currently divides his busy schedule between working as a choreographer and balancing his fashion-based projects, including high-profile modelling campaigns.

Born in Washington D.C., Eric began his career at a young age training locally with Barbara Marks when he was 14. At the end of his first year he joined the School of American Ballet, New York, later winning the school’s Philip Morris Foundation Scholarship. He graduated into the Dance Theatre of Harlem in 2000 and was promoted to soloist at the end of the season, before moving to American Ballet Theatre in 2003. As one of only few black dancers in The Royal Ballet company, Eric has been heavily responsible in making unprecedented developments in the diversity of ballet.
